Overview
Lee Towers with The Mat Mathews Orchestra refers to the 1975 album V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pals), credited to The Mat Mathews Orchestra featuring Lee Towers. Recording History
The project centers on Mat Mathews, a prominent Dutch jazz accordionist who led the accompanying ensemble for Towers. The release, issued in 1975 on Ariola, is documented in contemporary credits as The Mat Mathews Orchestra featuring Lee Towers. A track-by-track credit shows Secret Love (a Doris Day cover) produced by Rob Pelle and Willem Jan Hordijk, highlighting the collaborative producer role on at least that performance. Exact studio location and engineer credits are not extensively documented in the cited sources. ([en.wikipedia.org](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mat_Mathews?utm_source=openai))

Chart Performance & Recognition
There is no readily accessible chart position or certification record for this specific album. By contrast, Lee Towers’ broader discography includes later releases with chart activity and NVPI certifications, but those achievements pertain to other albums rather than this 1975 collaboration. Cultural Impact & Legacy
The album exemplifies a mid-1970s Dutch crossover between orchestral arrangements and pop vocals, a milieu in which Mat Mathews operated as arranger and bandleader. The Secret Love track is a focal point of the record and has been discussed in sources detailing the collaboration; Mat Mathews’ stature as a Dutch jazz pioneer provides contextual weight for the project.
