Get Back

"Get Back" is not just one of The Beatles' hit songs, but also an iconic piece associated with both their 1969 single release and the "Let It Be" album. Its journey is quite fascinating, starting off as a jam session improvisation by Paul McCartney. Originally, "Get Back" was intended as a satire aimed at the political climate of the time, with particular reference to the anti-immigration sentiment in the UK. Some early lyrics even controversially mocked British politician Enoch Powell's "Rivers of Blood" speech.

An interesting moment in its history is the famous rooftop concert where the band performed "Get Back" live atop the Apple Corps headquarters in London. This performance was interrupted by the police, creating one of the most memorable live music moments in history.

The track features Billy Preston on electric piano. His participation was significant enough that John Lennon once quipped that Preston should become a full member of The Beatles. "Get Back" was released as a standalone single and reached number one in various countries, solidifying its place in rock music history. Preston's keyboard work gave the song its distinct feel, and his collaboration marked a rare instance of an outside musician being credited on a Beatles' single.

Even though it's a simple rock number on the surface, "Get Back" reflects The Beatles' experimental phase during the "Let It Be" sessions, capturing their spontaneous and raw creative energy. It's a prime example of how the band's dynamic and their response to contemporary issues made their music resonate beyond just entertainment.
